Dr. Simranjeet Sander brings a uniquely international perspective to eye care at Avalon Eye Care in Vaughan. Trained in the UK's prestigious Aston University optometry program and clinically experienced at NHS hospital level, she has developed deep expertise in myopia control, dry eye management, and contact lens fitting.
Dr. Sander graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Optometry from Aston University, Birmingham, UK in 2013 — one of the world's top-ranked optometry programs. Aston's program is renowned for its rigorous clinical training and emphasis on ocular disease management.
She completed her clinical training working in both private practice and in Ophthalmology at the NHS Peterborough and Stamford Hospital — hospital-level clinical exposure that most Canadian-trained optometrists simply do not have. Working alongside ophthalmologists in a hospital setting gave Dr. Sander an exceptional grounding in ocular disease detection and management.
After relocating to Canada in 2019, Dr. Sander furthered her Canadian qualifications through the University of Waterloo and is a registered member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO) and the College of Optometrists of Ontario (COO).
Dr. Sander has developed a special interest in myopia control — slowing the progression of nearsightedness in children using orthokeratology, soft multifocal lenses, and atropine therapy. Early intervention can dramatically reduce a child's lifetime myopia risk.
Dr. Sander specializes in the diagnosis and management of dry eye syndrome — from meibomian gland dysfunction and evaporative dry eye to prescription drop therapy and scleral lens fitting for severe cases.
With extensive training in soft, rigid gas-permeable (RGP), toric, multifocal, and scleral contact lenses, Dr. Sander fits patients with complex prescriptions and corneal conditions who struggle with standard lenses.
Trained at NHS hospital level, Dr. Sander has in-depth experience managing glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and other conditions that require careful long-term monitoring and co-management with ophthalmologists.
Dr. Sander is one of the few Vaughan-area optometrists with dedicated training and experience in orthokeratology (Ortho-K) — the overnight lens therapy that reshapes the cornea so patients can see clearly all day without glasses or daytime lenses. She sees this as one of the most exciting treatments in optometry for children with progressing myopia.
Dr. Sander is warm, patient, and thorough. Her patients consistently describe her as someone who takes the time to explain everything clearly and makes even anxious patients feel at ease. In her free time she enjoys discovering new restaurants, travelling, and cooking.
She is passionate about promoting optimal eye health in the Vaughan and Woodbridge community and stays current with advances in optometry through regular continuing education.
Dr. Sander sees patients at Avalon Eye Care, 200 Whitmore Rd, Unit 15, Woodbridge (Vaughan), ON. Specializing in myopia control, dry eye, and contact lens fitting.
